“I have always worked with opposites: light and shadow, concave and convex. Quetzalcóatl is the result of a work period in which I speak of generation and transformation.” -Pedro Cervantes

Since childhood, Pedro Cervantes has been fascinated by horses and began modeling them from clay which led him to a life in art. He has experimented with various materials including industrial parts, iron and stainless steel. Cervantes’ first interactive sculpture is Quetzalcóatl, a piece that presided at his exhibition in the National Museum of San Carlos and coincided with his admission into the hallowed Academy of Arts. A monumental, kinetic sculpture, Quetzalcóatl creates an “infinite” number of compositions with the space around it.

Pedro Cervantes had his first solo exhibition titled Cerámica y Terracotas Policomadas in 1958 at the Galería Excélsior in Mexico City. Since then, he has exhibited his work in important exhibitions including the Salón de Artistas Jovenes event of the Museo de Arte Moderno, Expo 67 at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Sala Ollin Yolitzli in Mexico City and the Galería Aldama in Mexico City. He has also exhibited in Guadalajara, Monterrey, the Modern Art Museum of Tokyo, the Museo de Bellas Artes in Caracas and the Club Oficiales de Estado Mayor Presidential. In 1968, Cervantes began using car bumpers and other automobile parts, searching junkyards for materials. After this period he began to work in bronze, making molds from clay or plaster. Pedro Cervantes aims to express sexuality, enjoyment and personal liberation in his practice.
